7 Postpartum Yoga Exercises To Improve Your Mommy Pooch
12 Minute Postpartum Yoga Class
Wondering how to get rid of the mommy pooch you’ve been left with from pregnancy?
Try this quick postpartum yoga class to help improve it.
When I was six months postpartum with my second son I was still looking very much pregnant.
Mommy pooch is a phrase used to describe a bulge or protrusion that occurs in your belly after pregnancy.
It is caused by a weakening of the connective tissue down the mid-line of your rectus abdominis. As the connective tissue weakens, your muscles separate.
I knew the cause of my mommy pooch was from diastasis recti or abdominal separation.
What I needed to figure out next, was the best way to repair that damage.
Thankfully I was still able to love and appreciate my body, but I knew I wanted to make a healthy change.
I wasn’t interested in doing boring rehab exercises and I’m not one for workouts to loud music, so I set about to create a yoga program for postpartum mamas to strengthen their core and pelvic floor.
I’ve been teaching pregnant and postpartum women in person for the last ten years and it was very insightful to put all of those teachings into my own body and see the outcome.
Yoga is the perfect form of movement for women after pregnancy. Your body changes significantly after pregnancy and certain issues such as the alignment of your hips, pelvis and ribs needs to be addressed.
Unfortunately, many women aren’t aware their mommy tummy is actually a medical issue. Postpartum care for women is lacking and far too often women accept their new body and the symptoms they are experiencing.
Diastasis recti isn’t just a cosmetic issue, it can cause postural issues that leads to back pain, pelvic pain and even incontinence. Definitely not something that women should just put up with.
They assume there’s nothing they can do to change it, and don’t connect it with the uncomfortable side effects.
Yoga encompasses the whole body, so while we are focusing on your abdominal area, we do this by recognizing that everything is connected.
Yoga not only supports your physical body, it supports your mind. What’s the point of having a toned, strong body if you feel depressed or negative about yourself.
Yoga allows you to look and feel good in body and mind.
In this 12 minute Class, you’ll learn:
